Why it’s on my list

Covered litter boxes are popular because they hide the mess and keep litter inside. The problem with most covered boxes is that they’re plastic, and plastic traps smells over time, which gets worse in an enclosed space. This one has a stainless steel tray, so you get the benefits of a covered box without the long-term smell build-up.

What I really like is the flexibility. It can be used fully enclosed, semi-covered, or as an open pan. That matters, because not every cat likes a covered box, and here you can start open and close it up step by step once your cat is comfortable.

Key features

  • Stainless steel tray that doesn’t absorb odors and resists scratches
  • 3 setup modes: fully enclosed, semi-covered or open
  • Front entry, top exit
  • Carbon filter for odor control
  • Lockable latch to keep dogs out
  • Tall walls against leaks and spraying
  • XL size: 23.6 x 15.7 x 15.7 inches (about 60 x 40 x 40 cm), holds up to 40 L of litter
  • Included: step board (helpful for kittens and senior cats), litter scoop with holder, litter mat and 4 non-slip pads

Good to know

  • It’s big. Measure your space before ordering, especially if it’s going into a small bathroom.
  • A big box holds a lot of litter. You don’t need to fill it to the maximum. Around 5 cm (2 inches) of litter is enough for most cats.
  • Some cats feel trapped in covered boxes. If you’re switching from an open box, start in open mode and keep the old box available at first. (More in my guide on how many litter boxes you need.)
  • Scoop daily anyway. An enclosed box hides smells from you, but not from your cat.

Best for

  • Large cats who need room to turn and dig
  • Multi-cat homes
  • Homes with a dog who raids the litter box
  • Owners who want a covered box that won’t hold onto smells over time
